Let’s recycle to repurpose plastics. Your efforts count!
It is a long conversation when it comes to plastics, how to recycle and how to repurpose them. Cities in the United States have different recycling standards and programs. However, curbside recycling is the most common way to recycle in America.
After writing about sustainability for more than 15 years, I know the problem with plastics resides within the industrial, food, and beverage industries in most parts.
This is partially why:
- In the early stages, these industries did not invest in recycling technology to create a program for consumers to return their plastic bottles. Very few companies do this today, but the number of recycled bottles is minor compared to what goes to the market.
- Today, companies don’t invest enough in educating consumers on recycling their products. In addition, most companies do not include recycling technology in their ESG plans and expect more consumers to recycle with city programs.
Unfortunately, we must admit that plastic is necessary to protect and transport liquids, food, and water. These companies producing PET packaging are still essential to the world. If you think about it as I do, plastic is one of the most important inventions ever. Plastic is used for many things in life. Although packaging matters in life, we must take recycling seriously, and companies should invest in recycling education at large.
Please recycle and repurpose.
Try to recycle with your curbside recycling program, no matter what you have at home, paper, aluminum, glass, or plastics. We are all in this together. We purchase products, take them home, and are responsible for adequately tossing, recycling, and repurposing everything we buy. Please do it for the environment, you, your family, and our future generations.
